What can you do for a career in graphic design?

I'm thinking about majoring in graphic design. When you have a career in graphic design, do you have to illustrate and design on your own using the computer or can you use the help from the computer to design and illustrate?

Also, what kinds of careers are there for graphic design?

As a graphic designer, you can use whatever tools are necessary to accomplish the project. Most graphic designers use a computer these days. But they also incorporate traditional illustration, photography, etc.

The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook contains a lot of good information about careers in graphic design.

Reply:Its what the art world calls "safe art". Its called this because making a career in this is fairly safe. Its not the risk of starving like trying to sell your paintings. The field of grahpic arts or computered art is such a wide variety of jobs, its an amazing, wide field from creating ads to printing to a hundred different kinds of jobs that have to do with art in the computing industry. PIcking a speciality in this amazing area will become difficult because it is so vast and so very interesting. You could not make a better decision. My life has been full of wonder because I picked this field to go into and the jobs are endless. PIck being an artist is the world of business and you will never wander about having work and its forever growing as computers advance so will art.
