How do you design something for a design on a shirt?

Trying to get into grafhic design.

How do you design something for a design on a shirt?
color it using paint
Reply:You can have it professionally done with some company like Digital Image Manipulations http://www.dimdigital.com
Reply:good old paper and pencil
Reply:Use photoshop or a similar program.

Make sure each color is on a separate layer for the printing process. Screening shirts requires doing each color separately so that part is important.

The rest is up to you, make a design however big you want of whatever you want. The shirt printers can do the rest.
Reply:I am a die hard practicioner of thumbnail sketches. I may make dozens of sketches to get a good idea of where the illustration may take me.

By the time I am done with this step, I have a very good idea about the proportions of the illustration, the pose of the character(s), composition, flow, text, etc.

After that, what comes next depends on a few things. I may sketch out a final drawing at it's full size, then scan it in for inking and coloring. I may end up inking it on paper, before scanning and coloring in the computer.

If the design is larger than I can fit in my desktop scanner, then, I will scan in the final thumnail sketch and use Adobe Illustrator's vector drawing tools to ink it. Depending on the type of design, I may color it in Illustrator, or take it into Photshop for coloring.

A lot of things to consider, for which, ultimately, the client must make some decisions, such as how many colors to use. (the more colors, the more screens must be cut, each one a separate printing step) gradiated fills, which will need a halftone screen, and others.

The next steps are very critical for a freelance designer's bottom line. The more I can do to prepare the image for printing, the less I will have to pay somone else to do it for me. Also, the more I do myself, the more I can charge my client. He can, either, pay me or the print shop to do the color separations. You do NOT have to make each color on separate layers. Illustrator and Photshop, both, have excellent color sep tools, with Illustrator's being a bit more advanced for operations like trapping, choking and text layout. For gradiated fills, halftone screens must be selected, etc.

By the time the file gets to the print service bureau, all they have to do is cut the screens. (or cast the plates, for paper printing)
Reply:buy a shirt transfer package. this you can get at office max, stamples, any office store, heck even walmart has them. you can buy dark transfer for dark shirts, cotton transfers, all kinds. Design it and print it out in your printer and then iron it on. if you have words on it remember they have to be printed in a mirror reflection to come out where the shirt can be read.
Reply:I do graphic design in High school make sure you have either adobe photoshop or illustrator and start off with your design on paper by drawing it if you get a clean enough sketch you can scan and retrace your picture into photoshop or illustrator. As someone else said make sure your colors are on separate layers and if your going to make the screens and print the shirts yourself then you need to make sure you have enough screens for each color in your design. Another option is to get iron on transfers so you can print from your own printer and iron it right onto the T-shirt. Good Luck it's hard to start off but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier.
Reply:Start simple and then add more details as you go.it is a better idea to use contrasting colors for impact.make sure that you draw your design down using either computer or paper so you can see the result first

How much should I charge someone to design their myspace page?

I love doing graphic arts and designs and I've designed a few peoples myspace pages and but I've never charged for them. Now I have a celebrity who is interested in my designs and she asked what my rates were!! I don't have RATES! I've never charged anyone or even thought about charging. I wanna do it for free but at the same time, if the design gets noticed I wanna be paid for it! What should I do?!

She's not a HUGE celebrity with stacks of money. She's up and coming and she will star in the new Bratz movie as Sasha. Someone help me before she passes up the offer!

How much should I charge someone to design their myspace page?
Dolthare above is being a little dismissive (unintentionally, I'm sure) and may sound to be telling you to know your limits. Don't do this. If you want to become a designer then start thinking like one. Decide you are one. I remember a great line in the movie 'The Committments' where one of the band was talking to a friend in the welfare queue. He said "I'd prefer being an out-of-work musician to an out-of-work pipefitter" and he's right. If you want to be a designer then start calling yourself one.

Charge a fee. If it was me, I'd charge a reduced one and per hour is right - start placing a value on your time. What you are doing takes skill and is worth more than spending time packing biscuits onto a shop shelf.

Be sure to tell your woman that you are charging very little and it is a great idea about asking her to refer you to her friends.

Get her to e-mail you to thank you for what you have done too. If she becomes the next Angelina a reference like that could open doors for you.

$25 is about £13 now and is a VERY reasonable rate for designing. If you're happy with that then go for it.
Reply:Good for you!

I can't help you with the charges except to tell you that perhaps you can get some ideas form other than do this all the time. I think most site designers charge by the hour. A group I belong to are charged 35$ an hour for updates and designs. you can use that information or contact other web designers for their charges. Figure your time, and charge accordingly.
Reply:I think you should do her page for free and ask for a good referall from her friends and fellow celeberties so you can get the buisness rolling.
Reply:I would go slightly under whatever the standard is for website design. Remember that even though you have done a few, you are still new to doing it professionally %26amp; also that myspace is supposed to be a do it yourself kind of thing. there are plenty of links out there that will help someone with no experience do it so keep that in mind before you set your rate too high.

Does anyone know where I can find design ideas for decorating a small toilet and bathroom on a budget?

I have a small bathroom and toilet which I would like to decorate myself but have absolutely no design ideas. I am looking for some simple, attractive designs but everything on the web seems to be too plush and costly. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can view photos of simple bathroom designs? I am looking mainly for ideas for decoration rather than replacement bathroom furniture. Alternatively, are there any people out there with good design skills who would be willing to offer me some design suggestions?

Does anyone know where I can find design ideas for decorating a small toilet and bathroom on a budget?
Check out ratemyspace.hgtv.com for some great ideas for small bathrooms.

Here are a couple small bathrooms that I thought were great.

Check places like Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Linens and Things, Pottery Barn Outlet for your accessories. Bed Bath and Beyond has 20% off coupons quite often and wait for Target to have a sale. Good luck and have fun with it!
Reply:go to www.homeinteriors.com/arnetragrayson

and have fun shopping.
Reply:I would go to hgtv.com.. Choose light colors for the wall and any fabrics you put in the bathroom. If you have a window get a sheer window treatment so the natural light still comes in. All you need to do is find a bathroom you like them look at oultet and liquidator stores for new items for your bathroom that looks similar to your picture. I would use earth tones..they look clean and simple. greens, blues, tans, yellows, and cream. Good Luck!

Main Research Question:How can Design Education enable a design thinker to operate in the contemporary world?

Main Research Question:

How can Design Education enable a design thinker to operate in the contemporary world, and not so much on any particular discipline? The practical application of design.

Sub Problems:

1. The human brain. How do we think? How do we learn? What exactly is education? How does information play a role in my knowledge? How do I construct a mental model? How does consilence play a role in learning?

2. Ideas. Where do they come from? Is design a matter of problem solving or is it more than this?

3. How does the environment in which we learn play a role in education? How does mental and physical space play a role in both education and everyday life? In what context do we learn, and in what context does design take place, are these different?

4. Why is creativity so important in learning? How can other aspects of design play a role in the teaching thereof? How can education maintain inspiration?

5. Sustainability. What does this mean on an educational level?

6. Past models of education versus current models. What are these? What processes are involved in the fuzzy front end of design, and why is it just that…the “fuzzy” front end?

7. What exactly is technology and how does it play a role in education? What is intellectual technology? What is the difference? Where does all this fit into education?

8. Synthesis, integration, multi-disciplinary. Why are these key words in design education? The jump between education and the real world? How can the system help students deal with this?

Main Research Question:How can Design Education enable a design thinker to operate in the contemporary world?
Suggestion: Don't even wait for the answer to this short question.
Reply:Specific and incisive concerns. Great.

If you want partial answers and point seeking, OK. If you want to learn how to integrate your questions, and the many others in your mind with answers, learn to open to the consciousness beyond words and descriptions. The capacities beyond all questions. The access was devised 1400 years ago by a Chinese scholar named after the mountain where he taught. He developed the integration of several thousand years of Indian thought and recognized the peaks. Then he devised a meditative practice to enable people to release the limits. 700 years later, a Japanese monk named Nichiren Daishonin, found out how to make the technique more accessible to ordinary people.

It is now taught by an international group called SGI. Their US site is http://www.sgi-usa.org.

What design would you use to build a pyramid with the largest interior cavity, only using primative methods?

The design i was thinking about was a half oval (with 4 arches), with the open end down, and the pyramid built around it. The design should be structurally sound, and the construction materials used are only stone (like the egyptians). No current-day technologies can be used. Thanks for the help.

What design would you use to build a pyramid with the largest interior cavity, only using primative methods?
The big problem with your solution is that arches are not a contemporary technology - they came into existance long after the pyramids were built. That is why the chambers in the pyramids are relatively narrow and long, so that rock slabs could be used to span the gap. Some places used a kind of shelved over hang, like pushing a deck of cards to one side, to make a raised roof, but no balancing as you would find in an arch.

How does my design compare with the others?

I entered this design contest for a college ad and I wanted to know your opinion about how my entry compares to the other entries.

The designs can be found @ http://www.uhwo.hawaii.edu/uhwo/poll/

My entry is Flyer #4. You could vote for me or the design you like, too.

How does my design compare with the others?
It is too balanced add some movement. I like #7, #8 but didn't vote incase you have an opportunity to improve it. The color choises in your's are the most "Hawiian". It's not bad. When you get to school I think you will do well. here is a list that you might find useful:

elements:

line

color

shape

value

space

form

texture

pricipals:

balance

empasis

movement

harmony/unity

pattern

rythem

porportion

I would also add; isolation (either by color or form)

What is product design and industrial design and what are the differences between them?

What is product design? What is industrial design? How to distinguish them?

What is product design and industrial design and what are the differences between them?
Industrial designers are concerned with form (looks).

Product designers are concerned with function (operation).
Reply:Product design is usually tied to asthetics and product functional qualities. Industrial design is more to designing the product for fit of use, ergonomics.

Nowadays, the line between the 2 profession is blurring, due to the new generation of CAD machines that allows both to be simulated on screen, before its built. Toyota is a very good example of this. They can even simulate how the car is built in the production line, using computer models of workers and checking how they can reach and install the different parts.

What is the difference between industrial design and product design?

I'm a prospective art/design school student and have been looking through catalogs and websites of various colleges. I've noticed some of these schools offer industrial design degrees, others product design degrees, and a few have both. I think I might want to try product design, but I'm not really sure as to what industrial design is and whether or not that's actually what I'm looking for. Can someone tell me what the difference between these two majors are? Examples of jobs that each would have would also be helpful.

What is the difference between industrial design and product design?
They would mean the same thing in many schools, just like you could study "graphic design" at one school and "visual communications" at another. But industrial design is actually a broader field, where you could potentially design products, machinery, cars, etc. Product design is usually focused more toward consumer products, electronics, etc. but not necessarily only that.

Basically both are looking at defining a need and creating a three-dimensional answer. It might be an issue of surface styling for an existing product or it might be conceiving a whole new item that doesn't exist. Good design and drawing skills are important. Having ability with math, geometry, etc. is important too.

There is a great website: www.idsa.org

Their resource section has good information about this profession that should help answer your questions. Good luck! It's an interesting field of study.

Interior design ideas for a working British style Phone Booth (the red one) into a living/rec. room?

I once saw a working phone booth, with door and all, incorporated into a living room in an interior design magazine. I am currently planning designs for my basement-party-lounge room, and think this design element would be a great conversation piece for guests. (also serves a purpose) Please post any links to articles or pictures of something similar to this, thanks!

You can do anything you want design wise as long as you are able and willing to pay for it. I think the concept would be great fun in a rec room but not a living room. If you can find one all you would have to do is have it wired to your telephone lines.
Reply:wow! So many possibilities. Well, besides a phone booth. Bar glasses and liquor storage cabinet, bookcase, dumbwaiter, entertainment center, entrance to the bathroom. . . . and on and on.

Design??????

I have to make something for school out of wood. I know what i'm making, but i don't know how do design (paint) it. i want a design that's easy, not like billions of little curvy lines that'll take me a week to paint. does anybody have any pics that might help? maybe poppies (the flower) or something like it, or a skyline, etc.

Design??????
Buy some tracing paper, and use a 2B pencil to trace over your favorite design. The design can be a simple silhouette, or can be many colors. It can be as elaborate as you want to make it. Just search images for a theme on google or yahoo. Print out your design and trace it. After tracing, place the traced side/ the penciled side of tracing paper of your design to the wood and go over the design to transfer your design to the wood. Use a pen that has run out of ink to go over your traced design. You can also use the end of a fork, or pointed object, but you risk tearing the tracing paper.

Another alternative is create a stencil from your computer, cut it out, and use spray paint. You can also go to your local hobby shop and buy pre cut stencils. You can also use a paint brush over the stencils as well.

Good luck

I hope this helps?
