What is the best way to getting a good design job?

I am a graphic design/game design student and I am not sure what field to go into. I want to do like layouts or magazine covers or even advertisment billboards. I just dont know how to get there. Can anyone help me?

What is the best way to getting a good design job?
Be good at what you do. It sounds corny but in creative jobs that IS the only criterium to get and keep a job.
Reply:While you are a student, can you offer to do work experience at a studio that you would like to work in? Can you take a week from studies? What about helping out one afternoon a week. This experience will be invaluable for when you apply for jobs later. But just so you know, nobody is going to give you anything really great to work on - they will save that for themselves. They will probably get you to cut and mount work, key in text etc. Not glam, but you can pick things up and ask questions while you are there. Be prepared to do anything! It will put you one step ahead of other students in obtaining a position. Also, join your national Graphic Design Association and network to network with others and get to meet the who's who in design in your town. Once you have researched where you want to work, you can prepare a CV tailored to the field and start ringing around to see if there are any positions.
Reply:I would suggest you make a list of places that have a need for, and already employ people to do, the sort of work you want. Then watch those places and apply for any part time, temporary job you can. Once they know you as an employee, then show them your portfolio and express an interest in working in their design department.
